Whilst we were in Athens with the Concordia University doing street theatre, we were able to take time to visit one of the largest refugee camps in Athens located at an abandoned airport. We also observed a squat in an abondened building where refugees had temporarily settled.
We had time to meet with the team from Alliance Relief to get an on the ground perspective of the refugee crisis. Alan Brown and his team were so helpful in helping us understand some of the dynamics going on as well as the ongoing needs.
Over 10,000 unaccompanied children have gone missing in Europe since the refugee crisis began and it is suspected a lot have fallen at the hands of traffickers. We were at the camps to see how we could help to alleviate this problem.
Stay tuned in the coming months as we process what we have seen and determine exactly how we can help.
