December 2015 News

I hope you are well and enjoying the Christmas Spirit that is all around us.  We’ve been busy building up to Christmas at Abolishion too!

The Restore Home is Coming

The team kept up a busy pace throughout November as we continue to work closer and closer towards the opening of or very first Restore Home for survivors of human trafficking.  We are more excited than you can believe about seeing all the sweat, work and tears we have put into this home, especially over the last 12 months, come into reality.  For us it will be a dream come true.  For the survivors that live there, it will be a chance at a life that was brutally stolen from them.

Help Furnish the Home

We invite you to be personally involved in helping to furnish our shelter.  We have put together a ‘wish list’, rather like a bridal registry, of everything we would like to have in the home to make it feel like, well, like home.  We would love for you to jump online and buy something at the Furnish For Freedom registry for the home.

The Gift that Gives

With Christmas coming, you might be looking for a gift for the person who has everything or doesn’t want anything.  Now, you can buy them an Abolishion gift card in $10, $25, $50 or $100 amounts.  Buy one for a friend and let them decide how the donation should be directed.  They can choose to buy furniture for the home or directly help survivors.  It’s a great way to spread awareness about human trafficking and get people involved.

Eliminating Violence Against Women

November 25 was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Abolishion was invited to be part of the 'Together Against Violence' event in Romania. The event was attended by senators, politicians and EU representatives including Madi Sharma from the European Economic and Social Committee.  Applause came when Abolishion announced that a much needed shelter would be opening for survivors of human trafficking.

Intern Action

We were also happy to have Sefora interning with us all the way from Australia for the month of November.  Sefora is a Romanian born in Australia so she was a good fit for the team.  You can read all about her adventures in our blog.  If you are interested in doing an internship with us, then we would love to hear from you.  Let us know on our volunteer page and one of our team will get in touch with you.

Thank you for your continued support of Abolishion and the fight against human trafficking.  It cannot happen without you!

I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and an outstanding New Year.

Leanne
